Hundreds of people have volunteered at Body & Soul Homeless Program over the years, and we are forever grateful for everyone's contributions. Help us continue the Lord's work this year.
IMPORTANT - You must sign a waiver to volunteer with us. Scroll down to the bottom of this page (look for "related files"), print and sign it, then bring it with you your first day. If you do not have a printer or you have saved it on your mobile device, email it to BodyandSoulDallas2@gmail.com and notify the checkin desk when you arrive.
VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTIONS
SATURDAYS: Volunteer Check-In Station (Arrives 6:15am Saturdays)
Check in the Volunteers
Verify they have completed the waiver (if not, have them sign)
Hand them the Volunteer Checklist
Confirm what station they will be working, and give them a quick overview of what is needed to work that station
Drink & Food Service, plus Kitchen (cooking) teams - provide gloves, mask and hairnet
Show volunteer their station and let them know who their lead is for that station for the day
SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS: Usher/Door Greeter (Arrives 7:00am Saturdays, 2:00pm Sundays)
Welcome all guests with a warm hello and friendly smile – thanking them for joining us
Keep a tally of the guest attending (provide final count to lead coordinator)
Monitor church stairwells and to ensure guests are not wandering off to unauthorized areas
Remain at the door during the service
If a visitor arrives with a dog, deny access but provide a meal-to-go
You may be asked to assist with cleaning following the end of service
Personally escort guests in wheelchairs to the elevator located on the south side of the building
SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS Cooking Team (Arrives 6:30am Saturdays, 1:00pm Sundays)
It is requested that all cooks are vaccinated for COVID
All cooks must wear gloves, masks and hairnets during their entire shift
Arrive on time because food preparation cannot start late
At least 1 experienced cook must be in the kitchen to support the lead coordinator
Follow meal preparation steps located on refrigerator doors
It is the responsibility of cooks to ensure that all dishes are washed at the end of the service – cooks may solicit help from additional volunteers amongst other teams if extra help is available
Cooks are also responsible for removing garbage from the fellowship hall to the dumpster area - help may be solicited from other teams
Respond to requests from people at the window needing assistance
SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS Serving Team (Arrives 7:00am Saturdays, 2:00pm Sundays)
Serve breakfast and beverages to our guests
All serving team members must wear gloves and a hairnet or head covering
Ensure plates being served are not touched by multiple hands
Monitor condiments to ensure guests are not taking too many (some guests are diabetic)
Clean tables and break them down after service– return tables and chairs to proper area
Alert greeting team once we are out of food (so we don't welcome guests only to then tell them we have no food left)
SATURDAYS: Essentials Team/Store Area (Arrives 7:00am Saturdays)
Pass out essentials: soaps, deodorants, books, etc.
Arrange store items in designated area during opening and assist with storing items at closing
Operate bag check and charging station area – Storing and guarding personal items of guests - This process may include providing guests with a bag-check ticket to prevent theft
IMPORTANT: Close this area and stop distributing items while the speaker is delivering the message.
SATURDAYS: Clothing Coordinator (arrive 7:00am Saturdays)
Organize any donations received and have them ready to distribute to our guests
Oversee the clothes to keep them sorted, hung and stored for easy access
Clothing checkin will be established so there are separate lines for Essentials and Clothes distribution
Clean up area after guests have departed
SATURDAYS: Kitchen Cleanup Crew (arrive 8:15am Saturdays)
Once food service is set out to serve, the Kitchen Cleanup Crew goes in and cleans up the kitchen
Wash pots and pans, clean oven
Dry and put all dishes away
Set up cleaning products for volunteers to clean tables and chairs after guests leave
Keep inventory of cleaning products and notify us of what is needed, if low on inventory
